Information Updates:
First Week of December will see the last session of all Yishui classes at Del Aire Park. Then Master Yun will take a break until after Chinese New Year (Jan. 22). Most likely we will not see him again until mid February of 2023. Happy holidays to everyone and Masters Yun and Su!
Classes canceled Thanksgiving week: Although the Golden Dragon Competition events went off well, many of us came away sick, including many of the members of Yishui School and Master Zhao Yun. As a result, classes were canceled at Del Aire Park starting Wednesday, November 16, 2022, and we will take the week of Thanksgiving off as well, to avoid in-person contact until we are all well.
Saturday Yishui classes will be canceled on November 12, 2022, to allow Yishui members to participate in the TCMAF Golden Dragon Championship Competition taking place at the Arcadia High School Gym, 180 Campus Drive, Arcadia. Yishui members have donated generously to support martial arts, thus enabling Yishui to be a sponsor of the Competition. Spectator tickets are $10, available at the door.
Wednesday November 9, 2022, Master Yun will be at the Del Aire Park to do Yang taiji 108 and taiji sword. If the ground is too wet, we can decide to cancel. We start at 11, but you should feel free to skip class as you see fit.
The Sun taiji, Bagua, and Yang 108 taiji form classes held between 11:00AM and 1:15PM on Tuesday will also be cancelled on November 8, 2022 due to stormy weather.
The saber and beginning taiji classes that normally take place outdoors at Del Aire Park on Monday morning from 11:00 to 12:30 were canceled on November 7, 2022 because of bad weather.
Master Zhao Yun is conducting martial arts classes on Zoom. Students of Yishui may get the meeting codes and passwords by contacting Master Zhao Yun directly at yishuiwuyi@gmail.com.
There are also in-person classes, and people may get a schedule of classes and join these classes by contacting Master Zhao.
As the schedules of classes become finalized and available, they will be posted here as well.

Upcoming Events
Hoping to create a retirement community where people as they age could stay in contact with good friends who share their interests and with whom they could eat food they enjoy and pass their time pleasantly and meaningfully even after they are no longer professionally active.
We need some younger friends and acquaintances (20-30 years younger) who would have the energy, connections and knowledge to make this project happen. However, there are some ways to address some of our concerns and goals now.
1. Health concerns cannot wait for the envisioned Community Center, especially if money must first be raised for the retirement home.
1a. My answer is to start an exercise group for seniors to teach warm up stretching exercises which include 拉筋 (stretching), 八段錦 (Eight Section Brocade), 太極拳 (taijiquan — 8-or 24-form), 孫氏太極 (Sun style taijiquan — short 13-form) , 八卦&形意基本功 (Bagua & xingyi basics), 氣功 (qigong). We can also teach health enhancing practices & how to improve balance & stamina.
These classes will soon be on this website. Introductory videos will be posted to let people know what to expect. The first part of the stretching classes can be seen in the warm-up exercises. Others will be posted shortly.
Those interested can sign up for classes, and when enough people (10+) respond, we will post further information about how to take classes on zoom. The classes will be followed by practice sessions on zoom, in which students may ask for slower-moving and more detailed demonstrations.
2. We need a meeting place to hold live classes and meetings to discuss further senior concerns & solutions.
2a. We can discuss this but requirements are modest. Cafe and park will do for now. Some things to pay attention to: city rules re masks and holding classes in parks.

Culinary Tips
Bitter melon, which has been used for regulating blood sugar, can be made into a delectable dish. Prepare the melon by slicing it (remove seeds) and briefly soaking the slices in water to lessen the bitterness. Sauté some crushed garlic in oil, use this oil to sauté the bitter melon with some fermented soybeans and slices of meat of choice. Instead of fermented soybeans for flavor, the meat — beef, pork, spare ribs or chicken — can be marinaded in other sauces of your preference, e.g. soy sauce mixed with cooking wine. For convenience, use barbecue pork, roast duck, roast pork or savory leftovers for meat.
Spare ribs: Marinade ribs in a pot in 1 tbsp wine, 2 tbsp vinegar, 3 tbsp sugar, 4 tbsp soy sauce, 5 tbsp. water. If the sauce does not cover ribs, increase ingredients proportionately; bring sauce to boil & cook ribs in sauce over medium heat until the sauce is thick (about 25 minutes).
